Welcome
An Idea came to me after looking at the 1973 EMS catalog.
I hadent seen it for over 40 years. I opened it like a book of my past.
50 years ago, things were different
Growing up in Dover you could pretty much camp anywhere . (One night we slept in the town hall. I don't think you could get away with that now!)
We didn't call them Mountain Bikes but its what they were for.
Mine was "Mobile Unit 1" "The Bugler". It's what was known back then as a trash pick, It was saved from going to the dump. A 23" Raleigh Sports, 3 Speed. Hand painted, witha Bugler Cigarette can metal, hand cut head badge glued on. It was my first 3 Speed. It worked. Perfect for the woods. It got me where I was going. Perfect for the job at a time when a derailleur bicycle would not hold up. Too many sticks. A derailleur just would not last.
My friend Jon Currier had "Mobile Unit 2" and so on.
A mobile unit has everything. Tent, kitchen and sound system.
The Sanyo Stereocast was available about 10 years before the Sony Walkman. The sound was good. Not as good as what everyone has now, but any FM radio station that broadcasted in Stereo within range, could be enjoyed in Stereo, in your tent. Classic Rock on WBCN and Classical on WCRB. it was all we needed.
Our stoves were white gas or Coleman Fuel. Dirty, Stinky and heavy. That being said, they worked and were dependable.
Having to carry Gasoline, sucked. I'm lucky to be still alive.
It needs to be recognized that if it wasn't for this angel, none of our nights in the woods would have never been possible.
Amelia Peabody was very generous to allow us to use her land.
Although it was posted, "No Camping", it was never enforced.
Another day , another adventure. Get out and ride your bike, hike, or just sit outside, no matter what the weather. Enjoy something new. Its never the same twice and just being out for a moment you Will notice the difference.
Welcome to our adventure.
I Hope You Enjoy Your Stay!
